From Kishi Mid, he is an old rival of Mutou Renji from 3rd Mid, they both made a name for themselves during mid school and ended up living together in the Umehoshi's house and joining Suzuran.
He also have an old rivalry with Yaita Ikumi. They would later gather with others to form the Hana-gumi.
Sakota became the main muscle behind the Hana-gumi.
He wanted to decide who was the strongest in the House and challenged Reiji and Tsukushima Hana. He got beat by Hana and later had to apoligize to Toranosuke for bullying him. They all got well as a family later.
